Vaccine inhibiting the need to do drugs

American scientists from Yale University have developed the first vaccine against cocaine dependence. Until now the vaccine was tested on 60 drugs consumer volunteers, the results being compared to the ones obtained from another group that was treated with a placebo vaccine. For the first group, scientists observed a 50% reduction in the quantity of cocaine consumed after 12 weeks from inoculation. More specific, the vaccine introduces larger cocaine molecules in the body, more easily recognized by the central system. Therefore, the body starts producing antibodies attacking cocaine molecules before …

Home kit for cancer detection might become a reality

A sensor smaller than a human hair known as an acoustic resonant sensor is being developed by the researchers at the University of Missouri. The sensor uses micro-nanoelectromechanical systems to detect diseases in body fluids, including breast and prostate cancers.
“In a liquid environment, most sensors experience a significant loss of signal quality, but by using highly sensitive, low-signal-loss acoustic resonant sensors in a liquid, these substances can be effectively and quickly detected — a brand-new concept that will result in a noninvasive approach for breast cancer detection.” said assistant professor …

New technique could help millions suffering from arthritis and osteoporosis

French researchers developed a revolutionary technique for administering bone repairing drugs which could help millions suffering from arthritis and osteoporosis.
Researchers from Strasbourg University hope the new technique will help bone and cartilage recovery thanks to the implant that gradually releases the necessary drugs (growth hormone drugs) into the body.
The new technique developed by the University of Strasbourg was tested only in the laboratory and on animals. This discovery is especially important to the elderly because in their case broken bones heal slower and may lead to permanent disability and even …
