Bananas for a healthier life

Bananas are one of the best sources of potassium, an essential mineral that maintains normal parameters blood pressure and heart function . Because it contains 467 mg of potassium and only 1 mg of sodium , a banana a day helps increase blood pressure and protect against atherosclerosis .

The positive effects of banana on heart disease have been demonstrated through several studies . For example , researchers have investigated the effects on blood pressure  over 40,000 Americans . Men who had a diet rich in potassium , but they consumed also food high in magnesium and fiber, showed a substantial reduction heart attack risk .

With regard to the cardiovascular benefits , potassium , found in bananas , helps bone health. Potassium can prevent calcium loss in the urine , caused by excessive salt intake .

2. Protection against ulcers

A long time ago were recognized the antacids effects of bananas , which protect against stomach ulcers and ulcer triggered diseases. According to a study , a simple mixture of banana and milk results in a significant suppression of acid secretion .

Bananas protects in two ways: first , substances found in bananas help activate the cells that make up the protective membrane of the stomach , so they produce a protective mucus against acids that form in the stomach. Second ,they  help components found in the stomach , called inhibitors protectors to eliminate bacteria in the stomach , known as the primary cause of stomach ulcers .

 3. Intestinal disorders

Bananas are a wise choice when it comes to medical conditions or problems that you want to overcome. For example , diarrhea reduces the amount of electrolytes in the body , but bananas can help replenish the body with potassium, one of the most important electrolytes, which helps to improve heart functions .

Also , bananas contain a soluble fiber called hydrocolloid , which helps normalize the digestive tract and ease constipation movements .

 4. Improve eyesight

A study published in the Archives of Ophthalmology indicates that eating 3 or more fruits per day may prevent macular degeneration, the primary cause of vision loss for elderly persons.

5.Protects bones

Frequent consumption of bananas helps your body better absorb calcium and so your bones will be strong and healthy for longer .

Bananas are a great source of fructooligosaccharide , probiotic component, because it contains bacteria that is  friendly  for colon. These beneficial bacteria produce vitamins and digestive enzymes that improve the ability to assimilate nutrients , but they also strengthen the immune system property . When fructooligosaccharides are fermented by these friendly bacteria not only the number of probiotic bacteria increases, but also the body’s ability to absorb calcium. Hence, it follows that gastrointestinal transit is low , and the risk of colon cancer is reduced .

Also , bananas are high in pro-vitamin A , which protects against chronic diseases , including some cancers , cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Because bananas have a higher amount of pro-vitamin A, core color should be more yellow when consuming.

6. Protect the health of the kidneys

Each year around 190,000 new cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed . Among the risk factors we can enumerate: smoking, high blood pressure , obesity and exposure to toxic substances ( asbestos , cadmium ) .

International Journal of Cancer researchers suggest that by eating all types of fruits and vegetables , especially bananas help the body to prevent kidney cancer. This is conclusion of a study that lasted 14 years involving 61,000 women aged 40-76 years. Thus, consumption of more than 75 servings of fruits and vegetables every month (almost 3 vegetables per day) reduces the risk of kidney cancer by 40%. Among fruits, bananas offer the greatest protection. Among vegetables , the greatest protection is provided by cabbage and root vegetables. Bananas have these properties because they have a high content of phenolic acid and cabbage is rich in sulfur , which helps detoxification. Together they form a mixture of phytonutrients helpful in protecting kidney functions.
