Vaccine inhibiting the need to do drugs
American scientists from Yale University have developed the first vaccine against cocaine dependence. Until now the vaccine was tested on 60 drugs consumer volunteers, the results being compared to the ones obtained from another group that was treated with a placebo vaccine. For the first group, scientists observed a 50% reduction in the quantity of cocaine consumed after 12 weeks from inoculation. More specific, the vaccine introduces larger cocaine molecules in the body, more easily recognized by the central system. Therefore, the body starts producing antibodies attacking cocaine molecules before they reach the brain. Despite great results, the vaccine did not completely suppressĀ the need to take drugs.
