PinacoladaWhen people begin a diet they focus their attention on what they eat and not on what they drink although drinks play an important role in a diet. As with food there are certain drinks recommended in a diet and there are drinks you should avoid.

Water is the only drink recommended in any diet. The ideal amount of water consumed per day is at least eight glasses which in turn will help your body burn about 62 calories. Water acts as a natural appetite suppressant by keeping your stomach full and fending off dehydration which can lead to hunger pangs. Often when you feel you are hungry you are actually feeling thirsty, so before eating drink a glass of water instead.

Coffee is a good drink for a diet because it doesn’t contain any calories. That is if you drink it without sugar or cream. The same thing goes for tea. Green tea is a good choice because of its high concentration of antioxidants.

Any fruit or vegetable juice can be incorporated in a diet as long as it is made from real fruit and not the sugar-filled concentrate that is loaded with calories.

Low or fat free milk could also be used in a diet because it makes you feel full, lowers blood pressure, strengthens bones, and provides a load of other nutrients your body needs.

On the opposite side when dieting you shouldn’t drink too much alcohol or sodas because they contain plenty of calories and also make you feel hungry.  However different alcoholic drinks can have different affects on a diet.

Pure spirits are among the best alcohol drinks to consume when on a diet because they only contain about 100 calories and little carbohydrates.  A glass of red or white wine is ok as long as you stay away from the sweet wines. Beer should be used in moderation when dieting because it’s full of calories (around 300 calories per bottle of beer).

So please keep in mind when dieting that what you drink can have a huge impact on how much weight you lose.

Good article. People need to consume more water. Being hydrated helps with your body’s natural detoxification processes.
